Exciting news for pickleball enthusiasts and Dumbo residents alike! A new pickleball center is set to open right next to the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. This dynamic addition to the neighborhood is part of the revitalization of Anchorage Plaza, transforming two former parking lots into a vibrant community hub.
The project, spearheaded by NYC Parks and operated by CityPickle, promises to bring much-needed recreational space to the area. CityPickle, known for its popular courts across New York City, will manage the new center, which will operate seasonally from March through November.
The new facility will boast twelve state-of-the-art pickleball courts located on Washington Street. Alongside the courts, visitors can enjoy various amenities such as restrooms, beach chairs, and food trucks, making it a perfect spot for both playing and socializing.
Additionally, Old Fulton Street will see enhancements including seating areas, a tree nursery, a dog run, and art installations, while Ash Alley will feature additional seating and artistic elements. This initiative not only reintroduces a long-inaccessible space to the public but also enriches the community's social and recreational landscape.
With the first balls set to fly next spring, this project is a significant win for Brooklyn's vibrant community and a testament to the growing popularity of pickleball. Whether you're a seasoned player or a curious newcomer, this new pickleball hub at Brooklyn Bridge promises to be a cornerstone of community life in Dumbo.
